How AlterLock Gen3 works
We will introduce in detail the mechanism of Gen3, which has evolved significantly.
Abnormal detection alarm
When the device detects movement, a loud alarm sounds up to 95 dB to deter theft.
A warning tone sounds for 10 seconds on the first detection, and a loud alarm sounds on the second and subsequent detections.
Adjustment of detection sensitivity
The detection sensitivity can be adjusted in three levels: High, Mid, and Low.
High” detects the slightest movement or tilt. Mid” and “Low” are less sensitive than that. When a bicycle is registered, selecting “Low” will optimize the sensitivity to the bike rack and allow for a slight side-to-side sway due to wind or neighbors.
Alarm Setting
The loud alarm has three sound patterns to choose from.
The alarm sound can be set to ring for a duration of 5 to 60 seconds, so it will not go off continuously. If an alarm is accidentally triggered, it will stop as soon as it is unlocked.
Warning and alarm sounds can also be turned off.
After the alarm sounds a certain number of times, it tracks the position silently without sounding an alarm.
Communication functions and application notifications
The device communicates via Bluetooth when the owner’s smartphone is nearby, and sends notifications and location information to the app via LTE-M or NB-IoT communications over long distances.
Compared to the previous model, communication performance has been greatly improved, enabling communication in a wide range of areas around the world.
What is LTE-M / NB-IoT?
It is a standard developed to realize global IoT communication based on LTE (4G), which is widely used as a mobile communication network worldwide, and can be used in the 5G era and beyond.
Both LTE-M and NB-IoT are designed for low power consumption and long communication distances.
Since it is based on LTE, the communication area is expected to be equivalent to that of a cellular phone.
AlterLock Gen3 supports both LTE-M and NB-IoT communication standards for global communication.
periodic communication
AlterLock periodically acquires and communicates location information regardless of the lock status.
Periodic communication intervals can be set from 6 to 24 hours.
If you forget to set the lock, the possibility of losing track is reduced.
Improved tracking performance
In the unlikely event of theft or periodic communication, location information is acquired using multiple positioning methods.
By receiving signals from GNSS (GPS & Galileo), Wi-Fi, and 4G base stations, the system attempts to locate the final point even in radio environments where positioning by GPS alone is difficult.
AlterLock Gen3 features an improved position information acquisition algorithm that reduces positioning time and improves accuracy while reducing power consumption.
Differences from Bluetooth trackers
Bluetooth trackers such as AirTag are designed to prevent loss; they do not have GPS or other positioning capabilities, so they only provide location information if a compatible smartphone is nearby.
In addition, it does not have a stand-alone communication function and does not have a notification function for out of Bluetooth range.
AlterLock has stand-alone positioning and communication capabilities, so you can receive notifications and track your location no matter how far away you are.

The sound of the alarm alerts criminals and deters theft.
Many perpetrators repeat their crimes because they believe that the risk of being caught for theft is low.
Therefore, they tend to avoid even the slightest risky behavior.
Three locking methods
Three lock/unlock operations are provided with the rider and cyclist in mind.
You can take a break between rides and get going right away without having to remove your gloves or take out your phone each time.

Countermeasures against false positives
Worried about accidentally setting off an alarm?
The first detection after locking is designed to sound a short warning tone.
In case of theft, a loud alarm can be used to threaten further movement or addition.
The alarm sounding time can be set from 5 to 60 seconds, so there is no need to worry about the alarm ringing continuously and disturbing neighbors.
Compatible with bike racks
By setting the detection sensitivity to “Low,” which is optimized for cycle racks, the system can be used with peace of mind even if there is some lateral swaying due to wind or neighbors.
Small and lightweight
The device weight is about 50g, which is comparable to a small cycle computer. Since it is sandwiched between the bottle cage and the bike frame, aero performance is not affected.
Water and Dust Resistance
The waterproof and dustproof performance is IP66, and there is no problem even if you wash your bike while wearing it. The housing structure has been greatly improved to enhance waterproof performance and durability.

By reducing power consumption, the new model achieves up to 3 months of operation time, which is approximately twice as long as the previous model. The charging port uses USB Type-C.

ソロライドやグループライドのとき、休憩などでロードバイクから離れるとき、アプリ１つでロックが出来て、異常があったときにはスマホに通知がきます。反応するか自分でロックしたときに動かしてみると、確かに、アラームが鳴り、スマホに通知がきます。大切なロードバイクを守るのに、買って損は全くありません。
アラームが鳴ったので、自転車を置いた場所に行くと自転車がなくなっていました。地図が更新され近くの駐車場を示していたので行ってみると、そこに自転車が放置されていました。悪戯か盗難か分かりませんが、自転車が無くならずにすみました。
会社付近の駐輪場にいつも停めるのですが、仕事が終わり帰ろうとするといつも立てかけているポールから落とされており、チェーンロックのみで繋がっている状態でした。同日、同僚たちは実際に自転車を盗まれたりヘルメットを盗まれたりと散々だったのですが、きっとオルターロックの警報音が鳴り響き私のものは盗まれずに済みました。
