Updating the firmware of your AlterLock device may help resolve issues and improve functionality.
Firmware Update Method
Ensure the device’s battery is sufficiently charged and connected to the app via Bluetooth before updating.
For Gen1 and Gen2 devices, perform the firmware update while the device is charging via USB cable.
1. In the app, tap “Advanced Settings” > “Device”.
2. If there is applicable firmware available, tap “Firmware Update”.
Firmware updates take only a minute or two.
The alarm sound of AlterLock device has a maximum sound of 95dB.
The initial setting is configured to emit a relatively lower warning sound only upon the first detection when in Lock mode.
This is intended for use in surroundings where bikes may be moved accidentally or false detections are likely to occur frequently.
Depending on the situation, you can choose to omit the initial warning sound and go straight to the loud alarm with the first detection.
From the main screen of the app, you can check the estimated battery level of AlterLock device.
The display is an estimate and may vary depending on conditions such as temperature.
Also, during tracking, the history of location information can provide an estimate of the battery level.
AlterLock device begins to acquire location information after the second detection is conducted while stationary in the locked state.
Positioning after becoming stationary allows location information to improve and makes it easier to pinpoint the last known location.
Location information is also acquired during regular communication, even when not in a locked state.
For more details, please check this page.
If you are transferring your AlterLock device to another person, please release the device from the app before handing it over.
By setting it to unlock state, the alarm is disabled.
(Gen2) Turning off periodic transmission will also stop the transmission of location information.
(Gen3) Shutting down the device from the application will stop all functions.
AlterLock can only be paired with one phone at a time.
AlterLock Gen3
Motion detection operates through the accelerometer in the AlterLock device, detecting movements above a certain level.
The sensitivity can be adjusted in three stages through the app.
– High: Detects slight changes in angle or vibration.
– Mid: Slightly less sensitive than High.
– Low: Calibrated for bike racks designed to hold the saddle. It detects less on lateral sways and more when the bike is taken off the rack.
*Note that if the registered type is not a bicycle, Low sensitivity will be slightly less than Mid.
For security reasons, the power can only be turned off via the app.
To power on the device, press and hold the device’s button for more than 3 seconds.
It is recommended that you turn off the power of the AlterLock Gen3 via the app and then only bring the device body on board after removing it in advance.
Currently, most airlines allow continuous use of devices that utilize signals of 100mW or less, including Bluetooth.
However, since the 4G communication function may exceed 100mW, please turn off the power when boarding the aircraft.
Additionally, the lithium battery used in AlterLock has a watt-hour rating of less than 2Wh, which is sufficiently below the limit of 160Wh imposed by many airlines.
AlterLock Gen2
Motion detection is carried out by the accelerometer installed in the AlterLock device, which detects movements that exceed a certain level.
Sensitivity can be set at three levels via the app.
– High: Detects even when the bike is slightly moved from a leaned position.
– Mid: Slightly less sensitive than High.
– Low: Calibrated for bike racks where the bike is hung by the saddle. It is less sensitive to lateral movements and will detect when the bike is removed from the rack.
For security purposes, it is not possible to turn off the power of the AlterLock device.
If you wish to disable the features, please turn off “Periodic Transmission” from the main screen of the app and switch to “Unlock” state.
AlterLock Gen1 and Gen2 cannot be completely powered off due to security reasons, and may fall under the restrictions for checked luggage.
It is advised to remove the device and carry only the device body on board.
Currently, most airlines allow the continuous use of devices utilizing signals of 100mW or less, including Bluetooth, but some airlines and aircraft may have restrictions, so please check with the respective airline.
The transmission power during AlterLock communication is below 20mW.
Furthermore, the lithium battery used in AlterLock has a watt-hour rating of less than 2Wh, which is well within the limits imposed by many airlines, which is 160Wh. If there is a need to completely stop the device’s communication, please release the device from the app.
The Auto-lock feature is not available on Gen2 devices.
Instead, the device’s button can be pressed to easily switch between lock and unlock.
The button only functions when the owner is nearby, allowing for secure use.
AlterLock Gen1
Motion detection is conducted through an accelerometer in the AlterLock device, which detects movements above a certain level.
The sensitivity can be set in three levels through the app.
– High: Highly sensitive, reacts to slight vibrations.
– Mid: Reacts to slight movements.
– Low: Reacts even lesser of movements than Mid.
For security purposes, it is not possible to turn off the power of the AlterLock device.
If you wish to disable the features, please switch to “Unlock” state.
AlterLock Gen1 and Gen2 cannot be completely powered off due to security reasons, and may fall under the restrictions for checked luggage.
It is advised to remove the device and carry only the device body on board.
